It is not necessary to own your own dog in order to begin raising Dog Handler experience. It is easy to find free events through the THERE "Activities" menu, that will allow you to interact with multiple dogs and practice pet commands. If you own your own dog, that dog will be most apt to listen to you. You can raise your Dog Handler experience by commanding and/or petting a dog, or giving it treats. You can raise this skill even faster by attending or hosting dog handing events where there are many dogs, as well as ‘send’ing your dog to someone. Once you have found the activity you want to attend, sign up and/or go to the event. The dog handler events are held in a round, fenced in area. There is no viewable "entrance," (such as a doorway) however at the platform where you first arrive, there should be a button that allows you to enter the dog arena. At these dog handler events there are often other attendees who are vying for the same dog's attention. Generally it is a good idea at events to begin by petting several of the dogs. Then begin the dog commands as shown below. You can group chat with the people at the event and still command the dogs (raising experience in both dog handling and social & creative experience). If you notice that the dogs are wandering away from you, either you are not typing in commands quickly enough to hold their attention, or maybe the owner, or a person with higher skill, has their attention. Be patient, gain the dog(s) attention and keep at it. Don't be greedy. Share the dogs with others who are trying to raise their skill. Each dog handler has their own method of commanding dogs, however I find that giving a command followed by "good" when the command is followed works best. You can command an individual dog if you know its name. Look at the info box for a pet, and if its name is Joe (for example), you can type: Joe sit (notice the dogs name and the command are two separate commands). Calling your own dog (if you own it) by its name is unnecessary, as it will always obey you. Dog Commands bark / speak - the dog will bark. come / here - the dog will come to you (and sometimes sit). fetch / bone / ball - will get the attention of your dog. If a ball is nearby the dog will play with the ball. go / play / get / run - the dog will run off and play. good / bad - the dog's mood changes from being happy to being sad. heel - the dog will come to you and follow you if moving. jump - the dog will jump. If you repeat this command quickly several times in succession, the dog will "bounce" higher. Just be aware if your dog is standing near a fence that it may jump right over. kill / sicem - the dog growls at any person nearby. paw / shake - the dog will put one paw up while sitting. sit - the dog will sit, after standing or laying down. stay - makes your dog remain near you for a short time or stop moving. sleep / lie / down / die - similar commands that will cause your dog to lay down and close its eyes, and remain motionless; the sleep command appears to be the most effective. up / stand - the dog will stand or get up after being sitting or lying down. wag - your dog will wag its tail. FYI: - Commands and/or dog names should be typed on separate lines with a hard [return/enter] after each one. Commands with spaces before or after or any other words and the dogs will NOT listen to them. - Be aware that even if you are playing with your dog in a Paintball zone, that even if you have a forcefield on, your dog will not. - If your or another person's dog jumps over the fence during an event, simply put the dog away (in the doghouse) or pick it up, [this can usually be done by standing close to the fence] and then drop it back into the dog arena.
